Advantages To Using VoIP During A Pandemic
June 1, 2020What Happens To My VoIP System When The Power Goes Out?
August 1, 2021Many people have the misconception that their business phone is just a “phone”. In reality, there is so much more going on behind the scenes to ensure that the billions of office phones around the world are functioning properly and reaching their call destinations.
One of the variables in this process is the phone system that your business telephones are using. It is not simply a box hanging on the back wall of your office.
There are three main types of business phone systems. These are:
- Premise Based Phone Systems
- Hybrid VoIP Phone Systems
- Cloud Based VoIP Phone System
Let’s talk about what each of these three business phone systems do and how they differ.
Premise Based Phone Systems
When you break it down, the PBX is quite simple in how it functions. This is the original version of the business telephony and has been used for many decades now. This system is the phone box that is located within the company’s walls and takes all of your incoming lines, and all of the calls on those lines, and serves them up to the correct extension.
Now, there are many other features included in the Premise Based Phone System, but at the core of the system, a traditional PBX controls your businesses’ telephone calls.
The traditional system is fast being replaced by its more modern, younger counterpart: The Cloud Based VoIP Phone System.
Hybrid VoIP Phone System
The Hybrid VoIP Phone System or VoIP PBX is a Premise Based Phone System which allows for Voice over IP telephones or SIP trunks which replace tradtional phone lines. The Nortel Business Communications Manager is a good example of a phone system which allowed for digital desk phones and IP telephones. The Hybrid VoIP Phone System is being rapidly phased out as cloud based VoIP telephone systems continue to dominate the market.
Cloud Based VoIP Phone System
The Cloud Based VoIP Phone System utlizes the internet to create a network of telephones that can be plugged in anyplace there is an internet connection. These telephones all connect to feature servers in secure data centers which are connected to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). There is no need to buy a telephone system which reduces the cost of purchasing a telephone system. Many users on phone systems are using mobile applications to communicate. All the users are connected via the internet making it easier to communicate and has helped our customers work from home during the pandemic
